Destinasi Pariwisata Indonesia-Nasi Tumpeng originated in Yogyakarta, on the south end of the island of Java. Its regal appearance as a yellow “rice mountain” invokes images of the Indonesian royal family who still lives in the city. The main course is accompanied by a host of smaller dishes such as ayam goreng (fried chicken), rendang (succulent beef with special curry sauce), and vegetables (sayur-sayuran).
Nasi Tumpeng receives its characteristic color from the infusion of turmeric which has been hailed for its health properties and further combined with a number of ingredients to produce the signature enticing aroma.
Nasi Tumpeng can be enjoyed anytime, but is serves particularly well as the centerpiece of important events and celebrations.  The phrase “selamatan”, which means salvation or gratitude, is often invoked when eating Nasi Tumpeng as a way of saying thank you for good fortune.
